Portainer is a container management platform for Kubernetes, Docker, and Podman environments. While it focuses on infrastructure management rather than low-code application building, it shares several underlying capabilities with Retool's feature set. Specifically, Portainer offers API access for integration, robust access control and security features (RBAC, external authentication), flexible deployment options (cloud, on-prem, edge), GitOps for version control, and activity/audit logs. It does not, however, provide a drag-and-drop UI builder, direct code customization for application logic, or direct database integrations in the same manner as Retool, as its primary function is container orchestration and management.
I've been using Alternative A for 6 months now and it's been fantastic. The pricing is much better and the features are actually more robust than what [Product] offers.
It handles edge cases much better and the API
is actually documented properly.

Honestly, after trying both, Competitor B wins hands down. Better customer support, cleaner interface, and they don't nickel and dime you for every feature.
