ButterCMS is a headless CMS that provides an API-based blog engine. While it doesn't directly offer a public-facing platform like Medium, it provides the underlying tools for developers to build such platforms. It explicitly mentions a rich text editor, tags and categories, author profiles (user profiles), and SEO features which include meta tags and URL slugs (search and discovery). It also mentions RSS/Atom feeds which can be used for distribution, and webhooks for integrations. The pricing page indicates a free developer plan and paid tiers, but not a direct membership monetization model for readers to pay writers. It also lacks explicit community feedback tools beyond general content management.
I've been using Alternative A for 6 months now and it's been fantastic. The pricing is much better and the features are actually more robust than what [Product] offers.
It handles edge cases much better and the API
is actually documented properly.

Honestly, after trying both, Competitor B wins hands down. Better customer support, cleaner interface, and they don't nickel and dime you for every feature.
